My Battle with Burnout
My battle with burnout was a profound, life-altering exhaustion that goes beyond mere fatigue. It's something I believe we never fully recover from. Instead, we learn, adapt, and forever carry a part of that experience with us.
In my case, burnout crept in due to a lack of necessary boundaries — something many of us might not even realize we're missing. This dangerous mix can lead to depression for some, while others, like myself, find it inspires bold new directions.
A Transformative Journey
Over the past two years, I've been consciously moving in a new direction — a journey that actually began in 2019. That year, I walked into a health center feeling as though everything was falling apart because, back then, I didn't know any better. At that time, I only considered three life areas:
Family: This was never a healthy environment for me.
Social: Working abroad and always traveling, it was hard for me back then to maintain friendship relationships.
Work: I leaned completely on work, feeling like a slave and unable to see that I had options due to my burnout state.
The receptionist asked how she could help, and I lost control. I started crying, struggling to breathe, and could only manage to say, "My life needs to be paused." Looking back, I realize what a mess I had allowed my life to become, reaching such a point of no return. The kind receptionist booked me a doctor's appointment for the next morning. That visit resulted in a diagnosis: burnout.
Since then, my journey has been transformative, filled with therapy, mentorship, extensive reading, learning, and profound self-discovery. I've been working hard to dismantle old insecurities, uncover the root causes of my stress, and make sweeping changes in my life, including:
Changing relationships: Surrounding myself with positive influences and people who were living the life that I wanted for myself.
Diet and body: Focusing on physical health and wellness where led to a deep transformation.
Mindset: Embracing new perspectives and mental tools.
Why the Drastic Changes?
The reason for these drastic changes is simple: I realized everything I was doing was wrong for me. Today, I consider at least 12 life areas, a significant expansion from my previous narrow focus. Armed with new tools and insights, I not only apply these changes to my personal life but also share them with friends, family, colleagues, and clients. This journey has allowed me to redesign my life for the better.
