I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you are filled with the same excitement and energy that has been buzzing around my life lately. Today, I want to share a story — a journey of discovery, growth, and authentic leadership — that has unfolded within my work space.
A Fresh Start
Let's dive right into the story that I believe many of you will find both intriguing and inspiring. Recently, I noticed a challenge that has crucial implications for our team dynamics and efficiency — particularly in our hiring process. Our dedicated HR person, who've been the backbone of our hiring, she seemed to hit a rough patch. It was apparent that inconsistency had crept into her workflow, causing us to miss out on some fantastic potential new hires.
I was set on stopping this early, so I decided it was time to take action. So, I had a one-on-one meeting with her. The goal? To understand her working methodoly, in order to coach her on working best practices, and ultimately empower her.
Understanding and Empowerment
During our session, it became clear that while the intentions were in the right place, there was a lack of clarity on the tasks that she needed to perform, how much time to allocate to each task, and the absence of clearly defined response times from others so she can continue her work. It's a common problem that can really slow us down.
Here's how we handled it:
Listing Tasks: She wrote down all the tasks, noting how important and urgent each one was, what steps to follow, and when each should be finished. Seeing everything on paper made it easier to understand her daily tasks and what they were required.
Breaking Down Tasks: For each task, we figured out what triggers each of them, listed each step needed to complete it, identified the tools required to execute, and understood its immediate and long-term importance. We also noted how the results of one task might lead to another.
Showing Connections: Lastly, to make everything clearer, we drew a diagram showing how tasks depend on each other. This helped her grasp things better and made sure she didn’t miss anything important in her busy day.
The Path Forward
The session was more than just solving problems; it changed how she saw and handled the challenges of managing her daily work. It's exciting to see the positive changes as we help our team members not just do their jobs but do them really well with clear and structured support.
As I write this, I'm getting ready for vacation, and it will be interesting to see how these new methods work while I'm away. I feel confident knowing that I've given my team the tools they need to succeed.
What's Next?
Looking ahead, the best is yet to come. We began with manual systems, but soon, I plan to bring in some AI tools that could completely change the way we work.
Picture AI that can analyze data, and automate follow-ups — all easily accessible. The possibilities are endless, and I think this will make our processes smoother and kick off a new wave of productivity and innovation.
